Beginner Lessons

Learn about safety and communication as well as developing a relationship, caring for and preparing your horse for riding (grooming, tacking) and basic techniques of horsemanship and riding skills. Children as young as two up through adult beginners ("refreshers") welcome. We'll teach the foundations of interacting with and riding your horse in a safe, non-judgmental and nurturing environment to get any rider ready for the next step. Lessons may take place in our outdoor arena or on our trails with a hand led trail walk, a "get back to nature" experience.
No age limit.
Weight limit 175 lbs with tack.

30 minutes private instruction, $40

FAQ'S

Do I need to bring a helmet?

No, we provide ATM certified riding helmets as required by law. Bike helmets are not allowed. We sanitize our helmets before and after use.

Can I stay with my child during the lesson?
We do not recommend parents accompany students as it can sometimes be a distraction. IF your child needs support to maintain balance in the saddle, we encourage parents to help out. If so, please be sure to wear closed footwear (no crocs, flip flops or sandals)

Can we take pictures?
YES! Our horses love selfies and are very good at posing for photos.

Can we bring treats to feed the horse?
Our horses are an important part of our working team and are not allowed to "eat on the job". Some of them have dietary restrictions and/or need portion control. They get healthy treats and supplements included in their daily meals to maintain a balanced diet.

Should I tip my instructor?
Gratuity is not automatically added to any of our pricing. If you feel you received exceptional service, our hard working instructors would be very appreciative of a tip in any amount!

What happens if it rains?
We are an all outdoor venue. If/when weather prevents us from riding safely outdoors due to factors such as excessive heat, rain, poor air quality, unsafe footing, typical "Rochester weather", we will offer other fun, non-mounted activities such as grooming, ground handling, learning parts of the horse and tack, feeding, trick training or other training techniques, bathing, braiding, hand leading, etc. Please let your instructor know if this is of interest or if you'd like to reschedule your lesson altogether. We know how important that "horsey time" is and will do our best to accommodate our students.
